Winning with Math & Science

Education   Environment   Empowerment

Eastman is guided by the trust between the company, employees, shareholders, and the broader community it touches with the goal of making a difference in a material way to all these entities. We recognize the value that business and industry has on education. Eastman MathElites™️ and SciencElites™️ strengthen the education community by providing in depth study of math and science foundational concepts.

Goals of both programs – to incorporate pedagogy, math content, and best teaching practices that matches state curriculum standards. Teachers engage in hands-on activities and presentation of their work in the daily sessions. This allows them to experience learning in a way that we would like to see them teaching their own students. Participants engage in a variety of investigations in the following areas: mathematical processes, numbers and operations, algebra, geometry and measurement, and data analysis, probability and statistics, with topics for investigations driven by the participants, student data, and local and state math standards.

In addition to learning math content, participants explore questions and ideas about their students’ learning, their teaching, and their curricular approaches. Building teacher networks is an additional bonus of this program.

Supplies for Soldiers

Empowerment

Thanks to our Eastman Foundation team members and our site community partners and neighbors, we collected a record-setting 94,832 items for the 2019 Supplies for Soldiers campaign! In December, more than 1,200 care packages made their way around the globe to 105 U.S. deployed units. Each deployed unit received multiple boxes of toiletries, entertainment items such as books and playing cards, non-perishable food/drink mixes, and practical items, including batteries, note pads and much more. Each unit also received notes and letters from area students sharing their gratitude.

Supplies for Soldiers

Empowerment

A little bit of home can go a long way for military service members stationed overseas. That’s why Eastman sponsors the Supplies for Soldiers program, an initiative that sends care packages to our soldiers to boost morale and help our troops.

During the 2017 holiday season, Eastman shipped almost 40,000 items to U.S. service members. Team members at multiple Eastman sites participate in the Supplies for Soldiers program, demonstrating support for the network of loved ones, family and friends on active duty outside the United States.

Supporters can make a monetary contribution through the Eastman Foundation PayPal account.

If you would like to donate suggested items, submit a soldier’s name or have questions about Supplies for Soldiers, please contact Angela McCamy at (423) 229-6407 or amccamy@eastman.com.

Life Skills and Garden Beds

Education   Environment   Empowerment   Economic Development

The sound of hammers, the smell of fertile soil, and the promise of a bountiful harvest filled the air at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport’s Eastman Center as seven raised garden beds came to life. Made possible by the Eastman Foundation and Appalachian Sustainable Development’s Learning Landscapes program, the raised garden beds support the Boys & Girls Club health and life skills program area. The project provides a tremendous opportunity not only for Club members to get active outdoors but also to learn about gardening and the plants they grow. They will also be able to enjoy the fresh food and flowers that result from their efforts. The impact of educating and inspiring healthy habits can expand beyond Club members to influence healthy habits for their families and the broader community. Learn More
